The most frequent question raised by the admirers of Thai food around the world is "Which of the restaurants that carry the sign 'Thai Cuisine' are serving authentic Thai food?" Team Thailand New York, comprised of Thai government agencies based in New York (namely the Royal Thai Consulate General, Thai Trade Center, Office of the Economic Counselor, Thailand Board of Investment and the Tourism Authority of Thailand) jointly conducted of a survey of Thai restaurants in New York City during September - October 2003 in order to help Thai food lovers answer their question.

Team Thailand surveyed 25 New York City restaurants and sampled three recommended dishes chosen by the proprietors of the restaurants. The emphasis was on the authenticity of the food, spice usage and the taste of the food itself.
